Menu Item: Marvin’s Delight – meatloaf, fried egg, pickles, bagel, hash browns
ABV has a crazy entree on their menu called the “foie gras fluffernutter,” which put it on the Times’ map last year. Living in the UES ain’t easy for a foodie, so I naturally jumped at the opportunity to try out this interesting experiment. I went twice and failed both times because of a private party. Third time’s a charm, right?!
Through the blistering 100 degree heat I made myself walk East Harlem’s hills to go at it again. It was open…yes! There was no private party…yes! There was foie gras fluffernutter on the menu…noooooooooo! Grrrrr. I guess it was a stupid assumption that foie gras would fly at 10:30am.
But wait, what is thisss?!
Meatloaf? Fried egg? Hash browns? I must be in a weird McDonald’s breakfast fantasy. I couldn’t envision how ABV would execute this, but I quickly overcame my foie gras deflation and ordered.
It was love at first sight–in a soft toasted bagel, fried egg and sliced meatloaf were stacked on top of hash brown patties. The yolk from the fried egg and juiciness of the well-seasoned meatloaf were water-falling into the hash browns and bagel. On the side, the golden hash browns were basking in the sun, crispy on the outside, and soft and moist on the inside. Each bite was savory brunch heaven.
ABV nailed it with this one.
